RAB launches new site

The Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) South Africa recently launched its new website with the twin aims of engaging the industry interactively and marketing radio in South Africa. The organisation's GM Norman Gibson says the site is a reflection of its previously stated aim of collaborating with the industry across the media, creative and client spheres.

“Ongoing engagement and a continued conversation with advertisers and marketers, media planners, strategists, creative experts and key industry bodies are critical to the success of the RAB.

“In line with this, our strategic planning session earlier this year yielded a number of interesting results, including the need to collaborate across the variety of disciplines that make up the local media and marketing industry,” reports Gibson.

The web site is designed to bring the industry together in a dynamic, interactive environment. As such, it is host to a variety of features including:
• The RAB Creative Corner - Profiling the very best of South African and international radio creative and top radio talent - the people who quite literally make radio tick.
• Monthly Featured Station - This month features Yfm and the launch of the station's very own customised iPhone application - a first in South Africa - developed by local digital strategy consultancy, Immedia.
• Media Minute Section - Video interviews with key media professionals on the current state of ‘radio play' and their views on the stark realities facing marketers in the modern-day marketplace.
• The RAB South Africa Facebook Group - This serves as a virtual meeting point for all those concerned with keeping in touch and in tune with cutting-edge local and global radio developments.

Primary goal

Looking ahead Gibson says: “The RAB South Africa's primary goal is to market the medium of radio to both clients and advertising agencies and, in so doing, create a culture of favourability towards the medium and move radio higher up the advertising agenda.

“We aim to achieve this by providing the advertising industry with useful information (including case studies, research, radio planning information etc), constant communication and various education and training initiatives. These are aimed at keeping the industry up to speed with the latest developments and key trends in radio. Clever planning and innovative thinking is key!”
