Fastest texter competition now in SA

In a bid to find the world's fastest texter, the LG Mobile World Cup, opened for the first time to South African competitors late last week. Founded in 2007, the first one was held in Korea, where 371 716 participated via the website and events at kiosks and sports stadia to find the person who can type text messages on their mobile phone the fastest.

This year the world cup has expanded to 11 other countries, including Russia, Indonesia, Mexico, Spain and South Africa. The grand prize is to be called the LG Mobile World Cup International Champion.

“Two hundred finalists from the regional events throughout South Africa will compete at the national championship at The Piazza, Montecasino, Fourways on Saturday, 24 October 2009. Participants stand a chance to win prizes up to R80 000 and the overall winners of both the QWERTY and numeric category will get to participate at the World Championships to be hosted in New York later this year,” explains Dr Michelle Potgieter, marketing director, LG Electronics South Africa.

“The competition will draw attention to texting as a popular, quick and easy communication tool, while increasing excitement and familiarity for LG brand and the innovative handsets currently offered in the market by the company,” concludes Potgieter.
