Comedy raises needed funds for ABF

The ABF, a non-profit organisation helping those in the advertising, media and allied industries that have fallen on hard times, held its successful fund raising evening last week at Joe Parkers in Montecasino. The second comedy evening received strong support from the industry, with over 300 guests attending.

"It is a wonderful venue and the support it offers the ABF Vital Support Fund is outstanding," says Sharlene Vallance, executive committee member. "We were lucky to have Edith Venter among our guests, Andy Rice from Radio 702's AdFeature programme and Odette van der Haar, CEO at the Association for Communication and Advertising."

"More money than expected"

"On final calculation, it seems that we raised more money than we expected," says Riana Stander, treasurer for the ABF. "These much needed funds will pay for the student bursary initiative. We also need to again say thank you to our valued sponsors - without them the ABF would not be able to function."

ABF's Johannesburg committee chairperson, Cherrie Lawlor, has agreed that 2012 will be the year that the organisation will entrench itself in the eventing landscape.
