Brewster gains Total SA

Marcus Brewster Publicity (MBP) has been appointed PR agency of record for Total South Africa, part of the multinational French-based energy company, it was announced yesterday, Tuesday, 24 June 2008. According to CEO Marcus Brewster, this puts Total in the uppermost tier of MBP's client roster, which includes SAB, RE/MAX of Southern Africa and Mango.

The Total Group, together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, is the fourth-largest publicly-traded integrated international oil and gas company in the world and has the largest retail service station network on the African continent.

Commenting on the decision to appoint MBP, Total corporate communications manager Faye-Marie Cloete says, “We wanted a partner agency that resonated with our vision and values. It was evident to the judging panel that MBP's ethos mirrored our own - to be the most respected service provider, operating at the most efficient cost and being fully committed to its responsibility towards employees and external stakeholders. MBP scored top marks for professionalism and we were very impressed with the transparency and accountability of their billing systems.”

“MBP's effective 360-degree corporate and commercial approach meant that we could respond to every level of Total's brief ranging from activating client's brand strategy to publicising their excellent environmental conservation projects,” says MBP national strategic director Hein Kaiser. “As an example, Total's environmentally aware stance goes back some 50 years since its association with SanParks - especially the Kruger National Park.

“Through a variety of external and internal communications stratagems, we will partner with Total to fulfill its mandate to be an excellent corporate citizen, number one with the customer and to make Total South Africa a great place to work,” concludes Kaiser.

With operations in more than 130 countries, Total engages in all aspects of the petroleum industry, including Upstream operations (oil and gas exploration, development and production, LNG) and Downstream operations (refining, marketing and the trading and shipping of crude oil and petroleum products).

Total South Africa manufactures and sells a full range of petroleum products to the retail, commercial and industrial markets. With a network of 530 service stations throughout SA, it is a key player in the petrochemicals market with products ranging from jet fuel and liquid petroleum gas to lubricants, greases and kerosene.
