New categories for SA Blog Awards 2008

The fourth Annual South African Blog Awards kicks off on Monday, 11 February 2008, when nominations for blogs in various categories will be opened and accepted from the public. Apart from further categories being introduced this year, there has also been an overhaul of the rules, after the controversy of 2007.

The awards are an annual showcase of the best of South Africa's independent publishing talent who this year will be competing for honours in 26 different categories.

New categories for this year include: Best Group Blog; Best Website Promoting Blogging; Best Sports blog; Best Green/Environmental Blog; Best Blog about Design; Best African Language Blog (other than English); Best Social Upliftment Blog; Most Controversial Blog; Best Travel Blog; Best Undiscovered Blog – and Best Post about the SA Blog Awards.

"There has been a huge increase in the number of South Africans who publish their thoughts and opinions on blogs since last year's awards , so we're expecting a vast number of nominations when the system opens on the 11th", says Jonathan Cherry, coordinator of the awards.

After the nominations have been processed, final voting will take place on www.sablogawards.com from Monday 3 March till midnight Friday 14 March and the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony which will be held in Cape Town on Thursday 3 April.
