Deadline for attendance at Community Radio media reflection

The deadline to apply for attendance to the National Community Radio Forum (NCRF) and Alternative Information Development Centre (AIDC) Community Media Reflection, to be held early in October, is Tuesday, 15 September 2009.

South Africa now has over 100 on-air community radio stations, two on-air community television stations, and numerous print and online community and alternative media initiatives. Community media projects have grown in number and have had fifteen years of often challenging experiences since the beginning of democracy.

Key questions that require collective and structured reflection will be discussed at a Community Media Reflection to be held on 8 - 9 October 2009 at the Elijah Barayi Memorial Training Centre, Johannesburg.

It aims to explore critical questions confronting media projects in South Africa and facilitate a dialogue with leaders from community media projects and other stakeholder organisations to reflect on their environment, develop a shared critique and develop alternatives.

The conference will lay the basis for a Popular Media Mindblast and NCRF Biannual General Meeting in Kimberly in December 2009 by developing aspects of the programme, mapping the issues, developing provisional positions and engaging leaders in the process.
