kalahari.com supports City Press with tactical ad

In direct response to the call by ANC secretary general, Gwede Mantashe's for advertisers to boycott the City Press, kalahari.com placed a tactical ad that appeared in the City Press on Sunday 27 May 2012.

"When we saw the headlines on Friday about the ANC asking advertisers to boycott the City Press, we immediately booked a space and turned this ad around very quickly for a Friday submission. It ran in yesterday's City Press," says Liz Hillock, head of marketing at kalahari.com.

Mantashe's call for boycott was in response to City Press editor, Ferial Haffajee's refusal to remove Brett Murray's controversial image, The Spear, from the publication's website.

"Sunday's City Press included interesting commentary on art and culture in our country which complemented the sentiment of the ad. We're a proudly South African retailer and the ad was created as a light-hearted and topical conclusion to a week of high drama," concludes Hillock.
