SETA - have you paid for your ticket, but missed the ride?

Some agencies are not taking advantage of the SETA levy grants system, even though they are paying a skills development levy. This may be due to uncertainty or unwillingness to get bogged down with constructing the required WSP (Workplace Skills Plan) and ATR (Annual Training Report).

These are the facts:

1. Independent Consultants, called External Skills Development Facilitators are available to assist in the construction of the WSP's and ATR's. Costs for doing this are negotiable with the consultants, and entail either a percentage of the reimbursement (no upfront costs) or an hourly fee.

2. For every R100 of your levy, you are reimbursed 15% of the levy by completing a WSP and 45% for completing an ATR.

If you comply with the above you may also be able to:

  • Obtain additional discretionary grants that relate to industry needs as identified by the SETA.
  • Take on registered 'Learnerships' and receive applicable allowances and tax rebates.

For names of External Skills Development facilitators in your area, please contact www.stratplanning.com, or your local SETA office.
