Art cinema chain expands

A new five-screen Cinema Nouveau screened by Jameson (CNSJ) complex will be opening in the new Cedar Square development in Fourways, Johannesburg on 13 July 2007. A further two CNSJ-complexes are scheduled to open in Bedfordview and Lonehill, Johannesburg, early next year, bringing the total of complexes dedicated to art cinema across South Africa to eight.

The new designs for CNSJ-cinemas will premiere at Cedar Square. Apart from screening the best quality cinema and film festivals from around the world, Nouveau now also aims to offer a complete boutique cinema lifestyle-experience.

“In keeping with contemporary trends and feedback from customers, the intention has always been to offer the exclusive quality of Nouveau to a broader audience. Coupled with our stylish new interiors and other exciting additions, we are confident that CNSJ will continue to be the leader when it comes to those audiences with a more discerning approach to their movie-going lifestyle,” says Fiaz Mahomed, CEO, Ster-Kinekor Theatres.

Even more relaxing

Cedar Nouveau's larger-than-usual seats, as well as a number of “double seats” in the cinemas, covered in a new luxurious fabric, should ensure an even more relaxing viewing experience than ever before. All five cinemas will also be equipped with the latest state-of-the-art Dolby SR sound systems, as well as the best quality projector technology available.

A stylish lounge area in the foyer featuring the latest in sophisticated furniture design, as well as festival and literature displays, will further compliment the movie-going experience. The new Cedar Square Nouveau will have 630 seats and wheelchair facilities. Green and grey bela décor with red and black seats will be the dominant colour scheme in the actual cinemas for the new look CNSJ.

From July, bookings can be made via the current Internet-facilities and now also via cellphones (WAP) on www.sterkinekor.com. The recently relaunched website now offers downloadable trailers, the free Moviemail service and “my profile” – where users can customise the info they wish to receive including movie times and cinemas of their choice.

Bookings can also still be made via TicketLine (082 16789); at self-service terminals at cinemas; or at the box office.
