Emmy nomination for Hopeville

Hot on the heels of its Rose d'Or award in Switzerland for best drama and mini-series, Hopeville is now an Emmy-nominee. The series is produced by Heartlines and SABC Education.

"Hopeville was one of our most difficult projects; we often found ourselves under tremendous pressure while working on this production so we are extremely happy that is has reached this stage. I personally thank Surekha Singh, our commissioning editor for her perseverance and patience while working on Hopeville," says Pontsho Makhetha, head of SABC Education's public information and social development unit.

Hopeville, recently broadcast on SABC2, tells the story of an alcoholic father, played by Themba Ndaba, who tries to win the love of his son (Junior Singo) by fixing the local swimming pool. The series, explores the impact of doing good in the lives of the whole community.

Hopeville also stars Desmond Dube, Fana Mokoena, Terry Pheto, Mary Twala, Jonathan Pienaar and Wilmien Roussouw. Hopeville was directed by John Trengove, cinematographer was Willie Nel and art director was Karel Flint. The series was based on a story by Roger Smith and Michele Rowe. It was line-produced by Daphne Williams.

The Emmy Award is a television production award focused on entertainment. Awards are presented in various sectors of the television industry, including entertainment programming, news and documentary shows, and sports programming.
