SABC radio presenters arrested

Lesedi FM radio presenters Thuso Motaung and Mmamontha Motaung have been arrested for allegedly conducting illegal activities against the SABC, the broadcaster announced today, Thursday, 7 December 2006. Motaung and Motaung have been suspended by the SABC, pending the outcome of their court case.

The investigation, which at various points involved the SABC internal forensic unit and the commercial crime unit of police, took more than a year to complete, due to the complexity of the issues involved.

Says SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago, "Without pre-judging the outcome of this specific case, the SABC would like to send a clear message of zero tolerance on corruption, in line with our policies and the country-wide campaign, to root out the evil of corruption internally and in the broader society.

"At this stage, the SABC cannot divulge any information on the case and we would like to allow all legal due processes to take place as the matter is sub-judice and already in the hands of our courts."
