O'Connor exits the Good Hope fast lane

Afternoon drive show DJ Ryan O'Connor has resigned from Good Hope FM after seven years, with his last show being today, Friday, 6 October 2006. Graeme White will take over the Drive Show from Monday 9 October.

Anthony Duke, Good Hope FM station manager, says, "We're sorry to see Ryan leave as he has brought a lot to the station over the years. It is particularly disappointing at this time as we launch our new format."

Says O'Connor of his decision: "I have always considered Good Hope FM to be the place where I first learnt the ropes. It is here that I knew what I loved and what I wanted to do; but a business proposition was offered to me, and I couldn't walk away from that."

O'Connor developed a reputation as a comical DJ, known for his hilarious prank calls on the fast-paced show which introduced listeners to Gaaaart, Rene, Winston and Jacques. In his seven years at Good Hope FM, he quickly rose from broadcasting in the early hours of the morning to weekends to hosting both the breakfast and afternoon drive shows.

"Graeme is a more than adequate replacement and has worked at Good Hope FM for many years. He currently produces the Nigel Pierce Show. Mark Marshall will still continue to present sports, and Vania Cloete news, weekdays 3pm to 6pm," concludes Duke.
