Proteas kitted out by adidas

adidas is the official sportswear supplier to all South African national teams, having signed a three-year agreement with Cricket South Africa (CSA) on 1 February 2011. The sponsorship deal includes the supply of both on-field product and training product. It also took the opportunity to display the new green and gold one-day kit, which the Proteas will wear during the ICC Cricket World Cup in India, Sri-Lanka and Bangladesh.

adidas is also fully behind the Lead SA initiative of Pure Protea Fridays. "We welcome the initiative, particularly because it contributes to national unity and we all saw what a powerful tool this can be during the 2010 FIFA World Cup," says Gavin Cowley, marketing director at adidas South Africa.

The new replica South African cricket shirts went on sale on 2 February 2011 at a recommended retail price of R599 from selected sporting goods retailers across the country. The replicas will have the traditional 3-stripes but the on-field kit, worn by the players, will not include the 3-stripes due to the International Cricket Council rules, which prohibit branding on playing kits during tournaments.

The brand is also staging a retail competition where consumers purchasing a shirt could win a double ticket to see a match in the Australian series in October 2011, which includes meeting the Proteas team.
