“I wanted to give the company a name that is truly South African and meaningful within the context of our business,” she continues.
“When we started some seven years ago we focused on youth market road shows with brand characters such as Sasko Sam, Chip and Carro McCain, and Dr Rabbit from Colgate. Our approach to managing the characters was different to what our competitors were doing at the time. Our characters educated kids during school hours and were out and about in the trade in the afternoons and over weekends promoting sales. Clients were impressed by the results and soon requests were rolling in for specialised in-store activities! The rest is history,” she smiles.
Michelle Combrinck has reason to smile. The Zinto Marketing Group offers brand activation services ranging from brand encounters (sampling, classic promotions, etc.) to brand and industrial theatre. The company has a reputation for edgy creative activations that always attracts attention.
A diverse client base means that Zinto is constantly challenged to think and operate out-of-the-box. “What works for FMCG clients such as McCain Frozen Vegetables, Yum-Yum peanut butter and Denny Mushrooms does not necessarily work for clients such as MTN and TetraPak,” says Combrinck. “Luckily I am surrounded by some of the most talented people in the business who enjoy having fun with the brands entrusted to them.”
