The Sunlight Safehouse Project was initiated in 1997 to offer traumatised children a loving place of safety within the home of a volunteer family, while the necessary investigations and legal processes are completed.
The programme has expanded substantially over the years, because of the collaboration between Childline and Unilever, one of the NGO's core sponsors. Initially a three-year project for Sunlight, the brand continues to sponsor the programme some 14 years later.
Some of the highlights of this collaboration have been the funding of the new receiving centre, where Childline is able to provide a professional and positive service for children who require alternative care after hours. Through ongoing funding from Unilever and Sunlight, it is able to continue with special projects reaching communities and children across a wide age spectrum.
The Sunlight van will be visiting communities around South Africa in a bright yellow truck, offering happy music and Bubbleman bringing bubbly fun to the people of South Africa.
