South African events teams ready to rock

Local event crews have been gearing up for two big events in South Africa, the U2 360° Tour in Johannesburg and Cape Town and the 11-day Pride 2011 festival in Cape Town.

This weekend, Stadium Management SA (SMSA) is anticipating that a new record will be set for crowd attendance at the FNB Stadium, which played host to the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The band's tour signature stage set, The Claw, has been under construction all week in the stadium.

SMSA has released additional hospitality tickets to the public to cater for the increased demand to join this once in a lifetime experience in the 'Calabash' and be part of history in creating the largest crowd attendance to date.

Love our diversity

Cape Town Pride's theme for 2011 is Love Our Diversity, which was chosen by online vote in late 2010. Pride, a volunteer run organisation, lead by festival director, Gareth Dallas, has formed a number of partnerships with other LGBTI organisations and companies, including Out in Africa, On Broadway and Gap Leisure.

This enables it to organise additional events that enrich the festival, which runs from 24 February 2011 to 6 March. These include a film premier, the Pride Pageant, Pink Ball, Red Party which brings together 17 clubs in and around Cape Town, a day at Mzolis, the annual parade through the streets of Cape Town and Parade Party.

Profits from festival will be donated to the Pride Shelter Trust, established in 2009 to provide a safe space for LGBTI people who are in need of support and shelter during times of adversity.
