Ingrid Corbett to helm Real Simple

Ingrid Corbett has taken over the reins as editor of Real Simple, effective 1 August 2008, publisher 8 Ink Media announced yesterday, Tuesday, 5 August 2008. Kerryn Fischer, who held the position since the launch edition in December 2005, remains with 8 Ink as editorial director and editor of National Geographic Traveler, which will launch locally in October this year.

Real Simple magazine is aimed at the 35+ market of busy women and aims to make their lives easier by providing solutions to everyday dilemmas. It is also a non-celebrity magazine, which means you'll never see Angelina Jolie or Halle Berry on the cover. "We believe that you need to know how to live your own life, not someone else's," states Corbett. Having previously contributed to Femina, Cosmopolitan, Top Billing and Elle Decoration magazines, she was appointed deputy editor on Real Simple in January 2007.

Born in Santiago, Chile, Corbett has spent the better part of her life traversing the globe and living in countries as diverse as Iran, Colombia, Venezuela, Portugal, Germany, Thailand and South Africa. Graduating from UCT in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Drama, she has put her unique world view to good practice in the fields of communication and publishing, most notably that of books and magazines.

"There's a universality to the demands that women around the world face on a daily basis and I am passionate about the ways in which Real Simple strives to simplify the lives of its readers. It gives me immense satisfaction finding ways in which we can make life easier across the magazine's pillars of food, fashion, home, health, beauty and soul," she affirms.

Corbett has two young sons and lives in Hout Bay, Western Cape, with two dogs, two cats, three fish - and one very patient husband.
