Ramsay draw card leads to stand sell-out

CEO and founder of the Good Food & Wine Show, Christine Cashmore, said that a huge draw card this year was internationally renowned celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay who will be in action at the Chefs in Action Theatre, sponsored by Samsung, Pick n Pay, Afrox Handigas, Boardmans, Alchemy of Gold and Top Billing. This has lead to the selling out of all exhibition stands by mid-March for the Cape Town show 13-16 May 2010 at Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

“This is quite unbelievable because most exhibitions are struggling in these difficult economic times,” said Cashmore. “We have a waiting list and if we have enough interest we will consider securing another hall at the CTICC. Exhibitors wanting space at the Johannesburg show (23-26 September) and the Durban show (25-28 November) should book now because space will be limited."

The other chefs are Eric Lanlard of Glamour Puds; Anjum Anand of Indian Food Made Easy; Italian Giorgio Locatelli who features in Tony and Giorgio; and Willie Harcourt-Cooze of Channel 4 series Willie's Wonky Chocolate Factory. Both Ramsay and Giorgio are Michelin Star chefs. Harcourt-Cooze will be launching his 70-100% cacao bars chocolate range in South Africa at the show.

These chefs will be joining local chefs and celebrities at the Good Food & Wine Show, which is one of the biggest interactive food, beverage and lifestyle events in the country, bringing the latest in international trends to South African gourmands and good life devotees.

Trade day offers chocolate tour-de-force

Members of the trade are eligible for free entry to the show at the CTICC on Thursday 13 May, including special demos by Willie Harcourt-Cooze (10.30am) and Eric Lanlard (11.30am).

Willie Harcourt-Cooze will talk about his enduring passion for chocolate and how to use it to spice up food. Once owner of a hacienda in Venezuela where he planted 10 000 cacao trees, Willie now lives in Devon and makes chocolate from bean to cacao bar which he uses to enrich anything from tiramisu to chicken mole and porcini and chocolate risotto.

Frenchman Eric Lanlard star of BBC Lifestyle's Glamour Puds, is a master pâtissier who has earned a reputation in Britain for creating inspirational cakes and an A-list clientele including Madonna, Claudia Schiffer, Elizabeth Hurley and Posh Beckham. Twice winner of Continental Pâtissier of the Year at the British Baking Awards, his flourishing wholesale business Laboratoire 2000, supplies the finest and most innovative French pastry to prestigious food halls in London, including royal grocer's Fortnum & Mason. His new venture - Cake Boy - a retail emporium - includes a ‘cake lounge' and a high tech cookery school. Eric's first book, Glamour Cakes, will be available at the Show.
