Come and eat together for peace and charity

"The Table of Peace and Unity will bring South Africans, regardless of race, culture or religion together at a single table for a unifying luncheon. Its aim is not only to raise money for children's charities, but to have all South Africans' hearts steered in the direction of a united South Africa," said its founder, Christine Cashmore. The charity luncheon, now in its 10th year, will take place on Sunday 18 April 2010 in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Polokwane and hopes to raise R1 million.

Celebrity chefs, entertainment

Join some of the country's local sports icons, celebrities, politicians and community heroes for a five-star luncheon prepared by a selection of handpicked executive chefs: Delia Harbottle, Lauren Livesy and Peter Templehoff of the Marine Hotel (The Liz McGrath Collection), Roberto De Carvalho of the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa and Jerome Peters, from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Entertainment includes Danny K, The Bala Brothers, Jason Hartman, Coda, Bianca La Grange, Three Tons of Fun and African Skye Pipe Band with a three-course luncheon, paired with South African wines.

Cape Town adds drive

The City's Angels initiative, launched in partnership with Cape Town based Heart 104.9FM, calls for public nomination of an individual or organisation, who against all odds is dedicated to helping disadvantaged children in and around the community.

Other charities benefitting from the event include Constitution Hill Foundation, Door of Hope and Samaritan House, Copes, Tygerberg Children's Hospital and Bright Sight.
