NEWSWATCH: Remember last year, when the ANCYL got in a froth and said IT WOULD CLOSE TWITTER DOWN! Well, if you can't close 'em, join 'em... It seems that think tank of economic geniuses, the main men of the ANCYL, have decided to use Twitter under the name @ANCYLHQ - and Verashni Pillay and Lisa van Wyk of Mail & Guardian have kindly taken it upon themselves to give our future leaders(!) some advice. And then there's Nando's latest newspaper ad...

  • Mail & Guardian: A politician's guide to Twitter... We sincerely hope that the head honchos @ANCYLHQ appreciate the advice and tips that Pillay and Van Wyk have, one suspects, in a spirit of kindly concern for those less intellectually able and less computer-literate, cobbled together.

    It's very simple advice, so it should be easy to follow. It covers subjects such as STAY OFF THE CAPS, and how to spot the difference between genuine comment and satire. There's also some timely advice regarding the number of followers one might eventually have, namely: Just because you may get a couple of million followers, doesn't actually guarantee that those hordes love and support you - they may simply be waiting for you to come up with something even more breathtakingly dof than you did last time. Shame, that sort of takes the Sheen off Twitter, doesn't it?

    There's even some advice for one of the Guptas, and if he misses the point then that wouldn't be very good Atul, now would it? We think you would be 'fully agreed'.

    We at Bizcommunity.com are really hoping that the M&G's Intrepid Duo will build on this commendable first offering with, perhaps, may we suggest, A Government Spokesman's Guide to Communication: 101 - Lesson 1 - How to open one's mouth WITHOUT changing feet.
