2004 Print Media SA Fellows announced

Five individuals were honoured for their significant contributions to furthering the interest of the print media industry, and the association, at the annual Print Media SA Newspaper Association awards.

The Fellowship Awards are regarded as the industry's most prestigious award in recognising key-decision makers for their achievements. The fellows are identified through nominations from the industry's stakeholders. The occasion, proudly sponsored by Mondi Shanduka Newsprint, was held at the Park Hyatt in Rosebank on November 11, 2004.

The President of Print Media SA, Trevor Ncube, introduced the 2004 Fellows as follows:

Salie de Swardt - Managing Director, Media 24

For his enormous contribution and commitment in furthering the interests of the newspaper and magazine market and contributions to the affairs of Print Media SA, through his 36-year service to the industry. His passion for the industry is evident through the key role he has played in the establishment of a number of newspaper and magazine titles, and the development of the Naspers group into a publishing powerhouse it is today.

Terry Moolman - CEO, Caxton Publishers & Printers Ltd

For his contributions in expanding the reach of print media to urban and rural communities through the establishment of community newspapers, freesheets and presses through-out South Africa, ensuring that these communities are kept abreast on the developments within their own regions. This has contributed towards a culture of reading and created opportunities for communities through the establishment of newspapers which service their specific interests and needs.

Thami Mazwai - CEO, Mafube Publishing

For the instrumental role he played in furthering and protecting the interest of black journalism through his contributions in being a member of the Union of Black Journalists, founder member of the Media Workers Union of South Africa, the Black Editors' Forum and South African National Editors Forum. His determination and passion for journalism is clear in his feisty spirit in addressing controversial issues, even if it was unpalatable to some of his colleagues. His contributions over his four decades of service to the industry is clear in the key role he has played in promoting black empowerment and journalism, as former publisher of Enterprise magazine and now, the CEO of Mafube Publishing.

Natasha Stretton - General Manager, Print Media SA

For her contribution in managing the affairs of the former Print Development Unit and the role she played in securing and managing the negotiations with government in the establishment of the Media Development and Diversity Agency. For her dedication and enormous contributions in furthering the ideals of the industry, through her leadership and management of Print Media SA's affairs.

Cathy Pestana - Administration Manager, Print Media SA

For her constant support and dedication in assisting the leaders of Print Media SA throughout the turbulent years.
