Caxton honours its own

With 123 newspapers and 22 community magazines entering the 37 categories, judges had to review more than 1700 entries in the annual Caxton Excellence Awards, up from last year's 1500 entries. The awards were issued at the Kyalami Theatre on the Track on Thursday 25 March 2010.

  • Winning journalist, Desireé Rorke (The Lowvelder) - prize R26 000
  • Field Salesperson of the Year, Eleen Erasmus (Leisure Options) - prize R26 000
  • Tele-salesperson of the year, Agrineth Lebakeng (Joburg South) - prize R15 000.
  • Best Portrait Photographer (new category) - Ma He's Makin' Eyes at me, Salome Kotzé (Klerksdorp Record)
  • Best Hard News Photograph - Dramatic Rescue, Mara Janse van Rensburg (Corridor Gazette)
  • Best Feature Photograph - The Naked Truth, Mariana Balt (White River Post)
  • Best Sports Photograph - Lion Pleasure, Jacques Cato, Alberton Record
  • Sold Newspaper of the Year, circulation 8 000 and more - The Lowvelder (editor Irma Green)
  • Free Newspaper of the Year, average pagination of 24 and more - Springs Advertiser (editor Cathy Grosvenor)
  • Free Newspaper of the Year, average pagination less than 24 - Southlands Sun (editor Michelle le Roux)
  • Best Get it Magazine - Joint winners Get It Lowveld (editor Irma Green) and Get It Jhb Northern Suburbs (editor Kym Argo)
  • Best Overall Promotion of a Publication - The Lowvelder
  • The Caxton/Citizen News Service Best Contribution award was presented to Landé Willemse (The Lowvelder)
  • Regional Manager of the Year was Buks Esterhuizen (The Lowvelder)
  • Metropolitan Manager of the Year jointly went to Vijay Maharaj & Reneesh Maharaj (The Rising Sun, KZN)
