SciDev.Net Investigative Science Journalism Fellowship for the Global South

SciDev.Net, with support from the Association of British Science Writers (ABSW), would like to encourage investigative science journalism in the Global South, and has established a Fellowship to enable a journalist to carry out a detailed investigation.

The Fellowship is open to all science journalists living and working within non-OECD countries who are employed by or freelance for a media outlet.

SciDev.Net Investigative Science Journalism Fellowship for the Global South

This Fellowship will support a journalist who would otherwise not be able to carry out this work. It will be judged by a panel of highly credible and respected professionals working in science journalism.

The fellowships will provide a cash prize (£3500/$5837), laptop, mentoring support from experts in science journalism, and training/conference opportunity.

This fellowship is supported by the Association of British Science Journalists with funding from the International Development Research Centre. There will be two stages to the Fellowship Programme:

    • Prize money will be awarded to three successful applicants who will be shortlisted - £500 GBP/$834 USD

    Stage two

One individual will be selected from the three candidates by a judging panel to receive:
    • A prize of £3500 GBP/$5837 USD
    • A laptop to complete their investigation

    • Be 'attached' to one of our regional news desks where our regional coordinator will provide specialised support in reporting on science news from a regional and global development perspective.
    • Editor/staff at the media outlet that the winner is connected to will have the option to participate in a workshop with SciDev.Net about improving/investing in science news
