Take a Pendoring home this weekend

The countdown to the Pendoring awards evening which takes place this coming Friday at Vodaworld in Midrand has started and this year's event promises to be another highlight on the South African advertising calendar.

This year's international judge, Edward Bardoul from the agency Euro RSCG BLRS in Amsterdam, has decided not to miss the event and is flying out from Amsterdam.

Johann Saaiman, creative director of Vinyl, and Mandy Croucamp from &nd Communications have teamed up again to create the audio visual presentation which carries this year's campaign theme through to the gala evening. The campaign was the brainchild of Lobedu Leo Burnett and is built around the concept and pay-off line that "Afrikaans is Bevonk."

The MCs for the evening are two old Pendoring regulars - Shaleen Surtie-Richards from Egoli fame and Frank Opperman who played the lead in Pendoring's theatre production 'Wie is Spek Harmse?'

Apart from its sponsorship of the Truly South African category, Vodacom also has a few surprises in store. Not only will the winner of each category receive a Vodafone live! cellphone as part of their prize, but Vodacom will also be handling this year's interactive game with a massive SMS wall on which guests' entries will be flashed throughout the evening.

The winner of this competition will win a weekend away at one of the ATKV's resorts as well as a book prize from LAPA publishers. Vodacom is also sponsoring the prizes for the Pendoring competitions on RSG and in Rapport.

SABC Group Sales is this year's sponsor of the new Homegrown category for all indigenous languages while Oracle Airtime Sales enters its second decade as a loyal Pendoring sponsor.

The winners in the student categories will each receive a study bursary worth R10 000 which is sponsored by Absa while Lithotech is again this year's sponsor of the Below the line/Direct marketing/Promotions category.

Other sponsors who are standing behind Pendoring and ensuring its success this year include Beeld, Sappi, Newsclip, M-Web, Toyota, Sanlam and First National Bank.

The prize winners in each of the categories will receive a golden Pendoring trophy as well as a cash prize while the overall winner receives an additional cash prize and an international study bursary from kykNET. A Silver Pendoring will be awarded in five categories this year.
