Judges selected for Diners Club Winelist Awards

The Diners Club Winelist Awards, being held in August 2012, has selected its 2012 judging panel, headed up by veteran wine critic and author Dave Hughes. He is joined by Pete Goffe-Wood, MasterChef South Africa judge; Marilyn Cooper, head of the Cape Wine Academy; sommelier Miguel Chan; JP Rossouw, author of Rossouw's Restaurants; Nikki Dumas, restaurant wine list specialist; wine critics and judges Fiona McDonald and Christine Rudman; and reigning Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year, Matthew van Heerden.

Hughes said he was delighted with the composition of this year's panel line-up. "Every member of the team has a keen appreciation of the integral part wine plays in any dining experience. Their expertise in the field will most certainly raise the bar for participants in achieving the top honours."

The names of the winners of the Diamond, Platinum, Gold and Silver awards, as well as of the national Best Winelist and Best Wine Steward, will be announced at functions in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban in September.

Restaurants, hotels and guesthouses countrywide are invited to submit their wine lists for the competition, judged on the selection, balance, presentation and the extent to which it complements the menu. Entries close on Friday, 27 July, at 4pm. For more information, go to www.dinersclub.co.za.
