Johannesburgers sure love their Asian food and they are willing to pay for it.

Bring on the chow mein, sushi and rogan josh.

According to a new infographic released by restaurant search service Zomato, which looked at the eating habits of Johannesburgers, 75% preferred dining out to ordering in.

Sandtonians, who searched the most for Indian cuisine, paid an average of R300 for a meal for two - just more than the inhabitants of the Northcliff-Rosebank region, who paid an average of R280 for two and favoured Japanese food.

In Soweto, African cuisine was the most popular (R280 was also the average spent), and Chinese food proved most desired in Jozi's inner city, with the average price the lowest at R240.

Interestingly, the most-searched terms list threw up searches for craft beer, health food, pizza, Sandton, burgers, chesa nyama, Mexican, Randburg, braai and nightclubs.

The City of Gold is only second to London for the most traffic on Zomato's nightlife pages, with 33% of users looking for nightlife options, compared with just 15% in Cape Town.

But according to Zomato, Capetonians are more experimental than Johannesburgers when it comes to food.

"Popular cuisines in Cape Town last year were Lebanese, Indian, Thai, Greek, Portuguese - testimony to the fact that there is an open-mindedness to try out new cuisine and flavours, and we only see this trend gaining momentum in 2015," Zomato said.

More Capetonians (35%) looked for takeaway delivery options than Joburgers (25%).
