Food and beverages income up 3.1% says Stats SA

Measured in current prices‚ total income generated by the food and beverages industry in SA increased by 3.1% in September compared with the same month last year‚ Statistics South Africa said on Monday (18 November).

Positive annual growth rates were recorded for food sales (3.9%) and other income (3.1%)‚ it said.

In September‚ it said revenue for takeaway and fast-food outlets grew by 6.9% and contributed 2.4 percentage points to the figures while restaurants and coffee shops were up by 1.7% and contributed 0.8 of a percentage point to the figures.

Stats SA said total income increased by 6.2% in the third quarter of this year compared with last year‚ with the main contributors being takeaway and fast-food outlets (8.9% and contributing 3.2 percentage points) and restaurants and coffee shops (4.5% and contributing 2.1 percentage points).
