'Wear SA clothes to Parliament opening'

MPs should support local jobs by showcasing South African-made outfits to the opening of Parliament, the SA Clothing and Textile Workers' Union said on Tuesday, 8 February 2011.

"We know that the fashion at the opening of Parliament is almost as important as the state of the nation address of the president," general secretary Andre Kriel said in a statement.

"We call on our ministers, MPs, their wives, girlfriends and partners [to wear] locally-produced clothing on this nationally important occasion."

The opening is on Thursday evening, 10 February.
