Magalies celebrates Monster bike ride, Citrus Festival

The ATKV in Buffelspoort, Magaliesberg will celebrate the citrus season with two events on the last two weekends of May 2013. On 25-26 May, is the Pronutro Magalies Monster, when more than 2000 cyclists set off to tackle the infamous route up the northern slope of Magaliesberg range along an awesome 9km climb, affectionately known as the Monster and 31 May-2 June is the 17th Magaliesberg Citrus Festival.

Citrus Festival offers much more

From its beginning in 1997, the Magaliesberg Citrus Festival has developed into a successful and popular outing for the whole family. The attendance grew from some 3 000 people in the first year to 15,000 in 2012. Part of its popularity may be rooted in its motto, 'Taste the mountain!'

Attendees have the opportunity to obtain naartjies and Valencia oranges at giveaway prices. Pure, unpreserved Magalies citrus juice is available on site and the well-known and famous Citrus Mampoer.

The festival kicks off with a formal dinner and concert on the Friday night.

During Saturday, performing artists create the necessary ambience for three beauty pageants, where Miss Citrus Blossom (3-7), Miss Naartjie (8-12) and Miss Citrus (13-18) will be crowned.

On the sport scene, more than 110 teams compete in the Bulletjie rugby tournament and 55 netball teams participate in the netball tournament.

Numerous flea market stalls selling clothes, flowers and bric-a-brac are available all day.

Festivities are concluded with a gospel show Sunday morning and a final feast at a sociable lunch.
