HICA Awards - finalists announced

The finalists in the 2010 Hospitality Investment Conference Africa (HICA) awards have been announced. This follows a rigorous judging process by a panel of hospitality industry experts, audited by Grant Thornton.

In the category 'Best new hotel investment' the finalists are Fairmont Zimbali Resort in KwaZulu-Natal, the Radisson Blu - Dakar in Senegal and the Crystal Towers & Spa in Cape Town.

Finalists in the category 'Best new non-hotel tourism investment' are Maliba Lodge in Lesotho, the East London International Convention Centre and the new 6th floor of the Sandton Sun Hotel.

The 'Upcoming industry mover and shaker' award will go to either Shingi Munyeza, Group CEO of African Sun Hotels, Andrew McLachlan, Vice President Business Development, Africa and Indian Ocean Islands at the Rezidor Hotel Group - who won the award last year - or to Alan Vels, MD of Signature Life Hotels.

In the category 'Excellence in travel and tourism reporting' the finalists are Julius Baumann of Business Day and Antoinette Slabbert of Sake 24.

Mmatšatši Marobe, CEO of the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA), convenors of HICA, says the annual HICA awards, to be made for the fourth time this year, have become sought-after and prestigious. "We award the top people and companies in the hospitality investment field - a field that is becoming increasingly dynamic in the southern African region."

The 2010 HICA awards will be made at the conference itself, which will be held at the Sandton Sun Hotel from 1 to 2 November.
