Green Star rated projects use Dulux Ecosure

As a Silver founding member of the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA), Dulux South Africa is living up to its pioneering status by ensuring that its sustainability solutions play an integral part in being specified for many of South Africa's sustainable and environmentally friendly building projects. It is a primary coatings supplier for more green buildings that are being planned and developed.

"We are finding that more companies that are committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility are choosing the company as their preferred coatings partner," said Mayan Desai, trade marketing manager. This is aided by the sustainability knowledge it is able to provide to stakeholders, which includes products, services, advice and expertise that also includes the innovative Envirowash System.

"Being part of AkzoNobel, which tops the latest rankings in the chemicals super sector of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the worldwide commitment to sustainability is also a major factor in the decision-making process. Clients know they are getting involved with an organisation that is extremely serious about sustainability, treating it as a core aspect of overall operations and activities," Desai added.

Green Star projects

Having been the primary coatings suppliers on the first Green Star rated building in South Africa, Nedbank Head Office Phase II, it has become the primary coatings supplier for many of the subsequent green rated buildings in the country. Some of these projects include:

• Lincoln on the Lake, Durban
• Mayfair on the Lake, Umhlanga Ridge

• SANRAL Head Office, Tshwane
• Standard Bank Rosebank

Sustainability is becoming more important and relevant and this is being reflected through coating ranges, such as Ecosure, which have been developed to maximise environmental benefits without sacrificing performance. The company aims to continue to stay at the forefront of the sustainability movement in coatings by continuing to offer the best combination of products, services, advice and global expertise.

GBCSA grows

Established in 2007, it has taken the GBCSA time and effort to gain momentum, but a tipping point has been reached and the number of Green Star SA certifications has doubled every year since 2009, year-on-year.

Considering the number of developments registered for certification, the GBCSA looks forward to increasing the total number of certifications in South Africa to 60 by the end of 2013.
