MySchool increases donations by 29%

The fund raising programme, MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet, has raised more than R36 million for charities, schools and environmental organisations; a 29% increase over the previous year, due to the continued support of its 670 000 active supporters.

The programme is now supported by almost 2000 retail outlets and is still growing, with a vision of being able to raise R1 million a week within the next three years.

When supporters swipe their MySchool, MyPlanet or MyVillage cards at participating retailers such as Engen QuickShops, Waltons, Toys R Us, Woolworths or kalahari.com, among others, the retail partner donates a percentage of their purchase value to the beneficiary of their choice, without it costing the supporter anything.

Funds are being donated to over 10 000 beneficiaries, including some 9000 schools across South Africa, "MyPlanet" beneficiaries, which care for animals and the environment and over 400 "MyVillage" beneficiaries who specifically care for people in need.

Pieter Twine, MySchool GM says, "Similar to the previous financial year, support for our animal-related beneficiaries has shown the greatest growth in new supporters, indicating that the South African public harbour a deep concern for animal welfare.

"It was also great to receive feedback from the public in the form of a special accolade. MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet was voted the #1 'Coolest Community Programme' in the Sunday Times Generation Next awards. It is a great honour to be acknowledged for our work and to know that the difference we make is felt in all communities."

The significant increase in funds raised from across the country indicates that more and more South Africans understand the benefits of the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme: it is convenient and trustworthy, there is no cost to the cardholder and the cardholder can choose whom to support.

"MySchool urges consumers and retailers to get involved in this simple and effective programme that is dramatically enhancing the lives of thousands of schools, less fortunate South Africans and our environment," concludes Twine.
