McDonald's creates opportunity for South African kids

The McDonald's Player Escort Programme launched last week to find 1200 South African children who will form part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup proceedings by walking hand-in-hand with world-renowned football players onto the pitch before each game.

The program will select children from the competition being run in the restaurants, from local football structures and from advertising in selected newspapers, over the next two months. The children will be selected randomly during a draw, which will be held during March, and will travel to the selected matches, accompanied by a parent or guardian.

“This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is available to South African children between the ages of 6-10,” says Nozipho Jafta, head of McDonald's 2010 Sponsorship. “We are recruiting South African kids to be Player Escorts during the greatest football tournament to be hosted on the African continent and join about 200 international kids on the program. They will be exposed to the excitement of the game as well as local and international football heroes.

“I am very excited about the opportunity being given to all South African children during this historic event. The program gives me the opportunity to inspire young children, encourage them to believe in themselves and their dreams,” says Teko Modise, the official ambassador of program.
