Novus Holdings acquires new packaging gravure press

Novus Holdings, previously known as the Paarl Media Group, has installed a new packaging gravure press for the production of labels and wrap-arounds at its Cape Town facility. Imported from Italy, the new press came into operation in September and forms part of the group's diversification process in expanding its print on packaging capability.

"In addition to our existing portfolio of self-adhesive label printing solutions, we see the value in the wet-glue wrap-arounds and shrink sleeves label market in South Africa as well as the African continent, and with this new press, we can confidently produce high-quality labels for the upper- and top-end food, beverage, cosmetics, and petrochemical markets," said Keith Vroon, COO of Novus Holdings.

The new Cerutti Rotogravure Printing Press Model R98X is the first of its kind in South Africa and offers high-speed production with the latest technology assisting in quality control and waste management. As the widest packaging format press, it can print on paper, film and metalised papers. Depending on the layout, the press can easily produce in excess of 30 to 60 million labels in 24 hours.

Labels for every packaging requirement

"Our staff has received training to operate the new equipment and processes, and we will see full production coming through in the next 12 months. With this sophisticated press technology, we have the flexibility to produce labels for every packaging requirement in the best possible time," added Vroon.
