India to beef up business with KZN

The first Durban-India business summit will take place this week to encourage trade and investment.

The summit, at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre on Thursday, 26 March 2009, will be hosted by India's Durban consul-general in partnership with the Durban Investment Promotion Agency, KPMG, the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Trade and Investment KZN.

Consul-general Harsh Vardhan Shringla said the aim of the summit was to reach out to companies that were not involved in business in India but had the potential to engage with the subcontinent.

“South Africa is India's biggest investment destination in Africa. A bulk of the Indian investment, particularly in the manufacturing sector, is in KwaZulu-Natal,” he said.

The summit, which is expected to attract about 150 CEOs or executives of corporate companies from KwaZulu-Natal and India, will look at both economies with a view to bilateral commercial relations.
