Leading Net-based travel services take to the air

Comair Limited, the parent company of British Airways in Southern Africa and kulula.com's airline and travel businesses, today announced the purchase of MT Beds and res24seven. The transaction further extends the kulula travel services business by leveraging two successful online sales platforms that consolidate travel accommodation inventories among multiple distribution channels.

The transaction will allow kulula.com - claimed to be the country's leading online retailer - to provide more live booking services across a wide variety of travel industry touch points and help grow the brand into a centralised supplier to other online travel businesses.

“Given the trajectory of the global economy into 2009, we anticipate fewer inbound travellers and less affordable outbound travel for South Africans,” said Iain Meaker, head of travel and distribution at kulula travel, Comair Limited. “The fit between our in-house technology, marketing expertise and e-commerce platform with MT Beds and res24seven will intensify our focus on local and regional travellers.”

With experienced management and a wealth of contracting and reservations expertise in the hotel, lodge and tailor-made itinerary fields, the inclusion of the two businesses into kulula travel will augment the company's focus on the growing domestic travel sector and provide a broader range of accommodation options in South Africa and various neighbouring countries.

“From a technology perspective, we will have real-time distribution of more than 900 properties across numerous reservation systems; something we plan to grow even further.”
