Have a drop of green pepper and asparagus

This vintage of the sought-after, medium-bodied Sauvignon blanc from one of South Africa's most enduring wine brands, was made from grapes that were able to ripen slowly to achieve the perfect balance between low sugars and concentrated fruit flavours. The heat wave just before the start of the 2007 harvest was followed by the coolest February in five years, which slowed down the ripening process allowing the classic flavours to develop. The grapes for the Zonnebloem Sauvignon Blanc 2007 were handpicked at optimal ripeness from vineyards in the Stellenbosch, Darling and Malmesbury areas.

“This refreshing wine is rich in upfront green pepper and herbaceous aromas, with asparagus and hints of ripe tropical fruit flavours on the nose and green notes following through nicely to the well-balanced palate,” is how Deon Boshoff, winemaker of Zonnebloem white wines, describes the wine, which retails at around R36 per bottle.
