Grain futures mostly higher in low-volume trade

South African grain futures were mostly higher on Wednesday but trading volumes remained thin.

"It was a quiet day‚ the volumes were low. The markets are waiting for fresh harvest news to come through. Traders are watching the yields closely to see if they are less or more than the market expectations‚" a local trader said.

At the close of market the white maize contract due for delivery in July 2015 was up R27 to R2‚625 a ton‚ the white maize contract due for delivery in September 2015 added R29 to R2‚667 a ton and the white maize contract for delivery in December 2015 was up R30 to R2‚708 a ton.

In yellow maize‚ the contract due in July 2015 lifted by R17 to R2‚357 a ton‚ the September 2015 contract gained R20 to R2‚397 a ton and the December 2015 contract was up R12 to R2‚422 a ton.

The wheat contract due for delivery in July 2015 lost R11 to R3‚818 a ton‚ the September 2015 contract fell R11 to R3‚844 a ton and the December 2015 wheat contract was unchanged at R3‚826 a ton.
