South African maize futures ended mixed on Monday (30 September) as traders awaited the key US crop report data.

The December white maize contract ended R1.20 higher at R2‚374.20 a ton‚ with the March 2014 white maize contract nudging up R2 to R2‚374 a ton but the July 2014 white maize fell R31 to R2‚106 per ton.

The December yellow maize contract closed R11 higher at R2‚200 a ton‚ while the March 2014 contract slipped R1 to R2‚187 a ton and July 2014 yellow maize dipped R11 to R2‚041 a ton.

The December wheat contract was up R17 to R3‚435 per ton and the March wheat contract gained R10 to R3‚500 per ton.

The US‚ which is the world's largest and exporter of maize‚ is scheduled to release its quarterly report on domestic crop stocks.

"We anticipate a real price action on Tuesday (1 October). The market expectation is for the bullish report‚" A Johannesburg trader said.
