Online banking login, password must never be disclosed - FNB

FNB urges customers to never disclose their online banking login and passwords. Customers should never access FNB's online banking via a link, and should never respond to a request to update or reconfirm their banking details as this exposes the customer to phishing. FNB offers customers free anti-phishing and anti-spyware software.

Although FNB will investigate each instance of online banking fraud, the bank is unlikely to reimburse losses arising from customers who have given their account, login and password details to a third party.

The bank's warning comes as third party sites seeking a customers' account number, login and password claim to offer value added benefits to the customer. FNB online banking offers bank charge reduction facilities and extensive online account management tools. These facilities are offered at no extra charge, and do not expose the customer to identity theft fraud.
