Saint-Gobain Gyproc introduces GypWall DuraLine

A high impact resistance plaster board walling system will be launched by Saint-Gobain Gyproc in July 2012. Saint-Gobain Gyproc has confirmed that they will be introducing two systems, namely GypWall DuraLine 63/F60S45 and Gypwall DuraLine 63/F60S41.

The walling system, known as GypWall DuraLine has a higher density core and consists of an aerated gypsum core with glass fibre and other proprietary additives. It is suitable for drylining internal surfaces offering a high impact resistant walling system for use where more durable structures are needed. It provides a lightweight, cost effective, non-load bearing walling suitable for high circulation areas, including corridors and stairwells in healthcare, educational and commercial buildings.

When put through a number of tests to prove overall durability and performance levels, GypWall DuraLine offered superior performance. When a duty rating for structural strength was tested to British standard (BS) 5234: part 2, the product earned a severe duty rating. Both systems achieved a one hour integrity and insulation fire rating according to SANS 10177 part 2, and in the acoustic tests done in accordance to BS EN ISO 140-3:1995, the products achieved a 45 decibel rating with insulation and 41 decibel rating with no insulation.

Used in hospitals in India

In addition, GypWall DuraLine weighs just 14.75kg/m² and can be installed at a speed of up to between 40 to 50m² per day. The product indicates a loading capacity of up to 120kg of planned loadings and up to 30kg of unplanned loadings, and a single layer walling system can go up to a height of 3.6m.

In a recent project completed in India, GypWall DuraLine was specified as the plasterboard wall for use given its ability to meet the design requirements specified for the building of the 20 000m² Wockhardt Hospital. The entire project had to be completed in an eight to twelve month period and two floors housing the ICU and twin-bed patient rooms had to be finished within two months.

GypWall DuraLine was selected for its ability to meet the challenges of the specifications including the time constraints of the project, the strength of board partition compared to a conventional brick wall, loadings required on the walling system, the pricing of the product and its longevity in terms of performance. DuraLine is the standard board that has to date been used in five hospitals in India, and has been specified in additional hospital projects due to be completed in 2012 and 2013.
