Maize futures end session positive

South African maize futures lifted for the seventh straight session on Wednesday (27 June 2012)‚ tracking corn prices on the Chicago Board of Trade.

The near-dated July white maize contract was up R9 at R2‚182 a ton‚ September white maize gained R12 to R2‚228 a ton and December white maize rose R13 to R2‚292 a ton‚ according to preliminary I-Net Bridge data.

The near-dated July yellow maize contract gained R30 to R2‚157 a ton‚ the September yellow maize contract climbed R22 to R2‚189 a ton and the December yellow maize contract added R28.80 to R2‚246.80 a ton.

The July wheat contract added R23 to R3‚092 a ton‚ September wheat rose R26 to R3‚155 a ton and the December wheat contract gained R8 to R3‚083 a ton.

US grain and soybean futures trade higher on Wednesday‚ led by sharp gains in corn and soybeans‚ as traders continued to factor in the risk of crop yield losses from stressful weather across the US corn belt‚ Dow Jones Newswires reported.

Dryness is a major threat to US crop potential‚ with no significant rains forecast for developing crops in the next two weeks.

The new crop December corn contract trades at its highest level since mid September.
