Djezzy GSM expands its connexion in Algeria

Orascom Technology Solutions completes deployment of Redline's RedCONNEX™ products to provide wireless backhaul for expansion of Orascom Telecom's Djezzy GSM service.

Toronto – Redline Communications Inc., (AIM:REDL) a leading provider of standards-based WiMAX and broadband wireless infrastructure products, has announced that its RedCONNEX AN-30e and AN-50e solutions have been deployed by Orascom Telecom to provide wireless backhaul for the expansion of its Djezzy GSM mobile services in Algeria. Orascom Telecom is a division of Orascom Telecom Holdings, one of the largest GSM carriers operating in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.

Orascom Technology Solutions (OTS) chose Redline's RedCONNEX products to enable Orascom Telecom to upgrade its mobile network, which currently provides voice services to more than eleven million customers, to manage increased traffic on its network and support more advanced voice and data communications.

“Orascom Telecom has built a large and loyal customer base through its ability to support advanced mobile voice and data services,” said Tarek Shamekh, Transmission Senior Manager, Orascom Technology Solutions. “We chose Redline's proven RedCONNEX product family for the expansion of our wireless network for its ability to deliver the reliable, low-latency connections required to support the real-time applications that our customers demand.”

The first phase of the network upgrade included wireless backhaul links using Redline's AN-30e and AN-50e non-line-of-sight, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint backhaul. An additional 65 Redline links are being deployed in preparation for the final phase of the project which will build out the wireless portion of the network to reach multiple cities in Algeria in 2007. The ORASCOM Telecom deployment was managed by OTS and OTS Informatique, its Algerian office and a Redline certified partner.

“Operators and service providers who use Redline's advanced wireless technologies to expand their mobile infrastructure are able to move more quickly to take advantage of new revenue opportunities and increase their market share,” said Kevin Suitor, Vice President Marketing and Business Development, Redline Communications. “As services, content and technologies continue to converge, more and more consumers have access to and benefit from broadband applications offering connectivity and advanced services.”

OTS and Redline also installed RedCONNEX broadband wireless infrastructure systems to connect each of Orascom Telecom's operations premises. The private network delivers broadband speeds of up to 54 Mbps (megabits per second) between the company's buildings to enable it to improve its communications and share and store data efficiently.
