British Airways pops up with this year's lover's list

Through interactive pop-up street art, British Airways unveiled the top six getaways for Valentine's Day. Based on desirability and popularity, the airline named London, Paris, New York, Rome, Mauritius and Victoria Falls as this year's most romantic escapes.

It revealed the six by unveiling a chalk work of Big Ben, the Statue of Liberty, the Colosseum, Eiffel Tower, a beach in Mauritius and Mosi-oa-Tunya or ‘the smoke that thunders’ in the Piazza at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg on 11 February 2016. The work took local artists Nes Blundell and Desmer Glenn 18 hours to complete.

“We chose street art to announce this year’s lover’s list because a pavement artist’s depiction of an iconic sight is exactly the sort of nostalgic memory couples treasure for years after a romantic holiday,” says Edward Frost, British Airways regional commercial manager for South and East Africa.

Visitors to the exhibition can post images to social media using #BAmyValentine of themselves next to the illustration of the place they’d most love to visit. By the end of the day two couples will have their wish come true, with British Airways giving away a set of tickets to one of the northern hemisphere cities and another to Victoria Falls or Mauritius.

The airline is also offering up to 25% off on fares to these and other European, North American and southern African destinations until 18 February. Fares from Johannesburg to London start from R11,275 and are available for travel from 17 April to 21 June and 12 September to 8 December.
