Exxaro gets interdict against strikers

Exxaro Resources said on Tuesday (19 March) it had obtained an urgent interdict against striking employees. The interdict‚ already served on the workers‚ directs them to resume their normal duties.

The interdict follows instances of "escalated violence and damage to property" by striking employees at certain operations on Monday (18 March)‚ Exxaro said in a statement.

The company said that its engagement with the National Union of Mineworkers over the past week regarding proposals to find an end to the unprotected strike had not been successful.

A central issue is the non-payment of performance bonuses as targets were not met.
