Textbook failure: ANCYL wants free pass for students

Media groups report that the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga has expressed her "great concern" that textbooks promised to school in Limpopo had still not been delivered, despite a court order that set a deadline of 15 June 2012 for distribution of the books.

She blamed "trusted service providers" for not delivering the books amid growing rumours that the publishers had refused to distribute the books without being guaranteed payment.

Motshekga has demanded a "full report" into the delays and says she will decide what "appropriate steps" will be taken to ensure that school children get their textbooks.

Meanwhile the ANC's Youth League is demanding that Grade 10 pupils in Limpopo be given a free pass because the textbooks had not been supplied.
