Serco celebrates 30 years at Jhb International Motor Show

Serco, the company that manufactures a wide range of vehicles celebrates 30 years in business at this year's Johannesburg International Motor Show. The show takes place at Nasrec from 8-16 October 2011.

Starting from humble beginnings in 1981 as "Vital Services", owner Trevor Holcroft, who is still involved in the business, set out on a risky journey to start up a fibreglass vehicle body manufacturing shop. Today Serco employs 400 staff and has manufacturing and after sales repair divisions in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The company has tailored its products to meet the demanding operating conditions of the local market and specialises in the design and manufacturing of fibreglass refrigerated and dry freight vehicles.

Developments on the cards

Reflecting on achievements over the past 30 years, Holcroft said he was very proud of the Serco team and thankful to all customers who have enjoyed the journey and supported the company during good times and been patient during difficult periods.

Some of their proud achievements include launching the Super Reefer lite, a light refrigerated trailer, obtaining an SABS ISO9000 quality listing and being recognised by Merseta for training of staff.

"Past achievements however do not guarantee future success. Focus and commitment on understanding customers' needs and ensuring we deliver on our promises are paramount. The competitive landscape and the demands of customers continue to challenge us to raise our game. A number of exciting developments and activities are planned as we gear up for 2012 and beyond," Holcroft said.
