Veuve Clicquot's Yellow by Design exhibition

In 2009, Veuve Clicquot champagne's design platform was launched in South Africa, in association with the Goodman Gallery, with the inaugural Yellow by Design contemporary art exhibition. This year's exhibition will be held at the Goodman Gallery, Arts on Main - corner Main Street and Berea, this Sunday, 31 January 2010, from 1pm to 3pm.

Clicquot's affiliation with contemporary design has resulted in collaboration with a number of world-renowned international artists, all responsible for contributing to the growth of Clicquot's “Daring Design” legacy. Recent years have seen collaboration with artists Karim Rashid, Andrée Putman, Tom Dixon, 5.5 Designers and Front Design, with Veuve Clicquot showcasing work at the prolific Milan Design week.

Touch of African flair

“Based on the success of Veuve Clicquot's affiliation with international design, the SA team felt that the exceptional creativity and talent exhibited by local artists merited launching the Clicquot Daring Design platform in South Africa,” commented Veuve Clicquot marketing manager, Maud Brachet.
Following a rigorous selection process, four leading South African artists and designers - Gregor Jenkin, Heath Nash, Tsai Design Studio and Christina Bryer - were selected and commissioned to create their yellow label-inspired pieces incorporating a “touch of African flair”.

Characterised by a diversity of cultural influences, the artists successfully created unique design expressions: Inertia by Gregor Jenkin; Pop & Toast by Christina Bryer; Yellow Light by Heath Nash and Signature Chair by Tsai Design Studio.

Highly respected panel

The designs, along with celebrated international work - including Rashid's acclaimed Love Seat and Globalight - will be showcased at the Yellow by Design exhibition. The pieces will be judged by a highly respected panel, including Kim Stern and Storm van Rensburg (Goodman Gallery); Pascal Asin (regional director Veuve Clicquot, Moët Hennessy Africa & Middle-East); Ravi Naidoo (Design Indaba) and Naomi Larkin (editor, House & Leisure), with the chosen artist winning a coveted ticket to the 2010 Milan Design week.

In celebration of the Yellow by Design exhibition, Canteen will be offering guests the opportunity to indulge in the Veuve Clicquot brunch special after the show, which includes delicious complimentary tapas platters for either one or two people, with every glass (R110) or bottle (R730) of Veuve Clicquot purchased. Booking essential. Call Matthew on +27 (0)83 399 9740.
