Bullock wins Oscar for role in The Blind Side

Sandra Bullock won the award for Best Actress at the 82nd annual Academy Awards for her portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side. I loved her performance in this movie, with her tough as nails act but maternal character as Mrs Tuohy. She came up against actor Meryl Streep amongst others for this award and looks like she's outdone them all.
Bullock wins Oscar for role in The Blind Side

It seems like The Blind Side is referring to the general blind eye we sometimes turn on the less fortunate but I'm not going to throw racial politics into the equation here even though there are obvious black and white themes in the plot.

The Blind Side is based on a true story about Michael Oher (aka ‘Big Mike' played by Quinton Aaron) a homeless boy who is taken in by a super rich white family who have never seen the ‘other' side of town. ‘Big Mike' comes from a traumatised background but has a tremendous talent, football. Mrs Tuohy (Bullock) and her family Mr Tuohy (Tim McGraw), Collins (Lily Collins) and SJ (Jae Head) help Big Mike to overcome his fears and focus on what's important in life.

A typical ‘rags to riches' tagline is in order here although it's not really as much about football than it is about helping a boy discover his dreams and giving him a chance in life.

This movie is meant to leave viewers inspired even if some of us may already be immune to it but The Blind Side offers a family ‘pick me up' for all to enjoy so don't be discouraged.

If you're a Bullock fan then you'll get what you need from this movie, if not, then you could be on your way to becoming one.
