The Parlotones in Kirstenbosch fundraiser

A special fund-raising concert on the public holiday, Monday, March 22, 2010, has ben organised to ensure that Kirstenbosch will be able to exhibit at the UK's Chelsea Flower Show. The Parlotones will be supported by South Africa's newest Indie-rock band, The Black Hotels.

Slightly longer than the normal Sunday Sunset concerts, the line-up is bound to attract many to the gardens and is the opportunity to support a very worthy cause.

The Parlotones are known for their electric, polished stage performances and their deftly crafted and darkly romantic lyrics. Most well known for their popular songs, Beautiful and Push me to the Floor their sound has moved from alternative to evolve into one of the biggest selling rock bands in the country with their album ”A world next door to yours” having achieved double-platinum status.

Black Hotels open

Supporting act, The Black Hotels, will open the event and, since their formation in 2006, they have been critically acclaimed from their first release, Beautiful Mornings. Their album, “Films of the next Century” was named Album of the Year 2009 by The Star Tonight.

Over the past 34 years, the exhibit has won South Africa 30 gold medals and many additional awards and has become an ambassador for South Africa. All money generated through ticket sales will go directly to the Chelsea Exhibit Fund.

Special picnic hampers

Special picnic hampers at available through Silvertree Restaurant and will include a bottle of The Parlotones' own signature wine range, named after their number one single, A Giant Mistake.

Concert times are 5pm to 7pm (gates open at 3.30pm). The cost is R120 (regret: no discount for children and Botanical Society members).
